Discovering My Voice

“In eighth grade I had the honor of introducing a representative from Mexico to the high school. It impressed me that I was asked to speak- it made me think about the meaning of that and the possibilities that public speaking could entail for me. I was young to have been asked for such an honor!

I did not have a position of great influence in the school, such as leadership on the student counsel. I observed from this experience that power with helping people had more to do with getting things done than it did with being elected to a certain position.”
